The one-day forum brought together twelve stakeholders drawn from key government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs). The engagement is part of a Technical Support Facility to IPAs in transition countries funded by the African Development Bank with the view to reviewing progress made by the countries in transition such as The Gambia, Sierra Leone, and Liberia.
Delivering his opening remarks, GiEPA CEO – Ousainou Senghore highlighted the need for the workshop adding it will enable members of the project steering committee such as the Ministries of Trade, Finance, Lands, and Justice as well as institutions and Agencies like the Central Bank, the Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA), the National Water and Electricity Company Limited (NAWEC), TAF Africa Global, Alpha Kapital, and GiEPA to review progress made and align with targets set by the AfDB and other potential international partners ready to improve the Gambia’s ease of doing business.
Mr Senghore further noted that in 2022, there have been over 80 million USS$ investment into the Gambia through Foreign Direct Investment with potential job outreach of three thousand employees.
He also underscored the series of interventions made by the AfDB project through Wavteq to help in the development of a website, a customer relationship management system (CRM) as well as three outreach missions to Turkey, Nigeria, and the United Kingdom. This he said has enabled them to meet with over 40 companies and potential investors whose commitment has manifested and will continue to provide more results in the months and years ahead.
Various presentations including one on the Wavteq Project Report 2022 detailed milestones registered by the Gambian project which is rated far ahead of other piloted projects across the subregion. The National projects steering committee workshop is part of a weeklong engagement by Wavteq and the AfDB to review and track progress on their interventions with GiEPA.
