A delegation of 25 Gambian businesses and officials have proudly participated in the 8th China International Import Expo (CIIE), held in Shanghai from November 5th – 10th 2025. The prestigious global event brought together leading businesses, policymakers, innovators, traders and investors from around the world to explore trade opportunities and strengthen international partnerships and collaborations.
Representing The Gambia were 13 Gambian business entities with 19th personnel and four key government institutions including GIEPA, The Ministry of Trade, Industry, Regional Integration and Employment, The Gambia Tourism Board, and Office of the President. The delegation’s primary mission was to: Showcase 26 “Made in The Gambia” products to a global audience, highlighting the country’s rich potential for trade and attraction of Investments; and Promote Gambia through staging a national pavilion that showcases MSME’s exhibit their products and companies engage with potential collaborators for partnerships and supply chain dealers.
This strengthens bilateral ties between The Gambia, China and rest of the world whilst fostering trade, investment, and cultural exchange. The 8th CIIE serves as a gateway for emerging economies to access China’s vast market and benefit from its commitment to open trade. As global trade evolves, The Gambia remains committed to positioning itself as a competitive player, leveraging on events like CIIE to connect with international markets and showcase the creativity and resilience of Gambian enterprises.
This year’s CIIE attracted 155 registered countries with over 449, 500 professional visitors, 4,108 overseas exhibitors, 43 Trade Missions and over 700 procurement negotiations were made including six Gambian companies. The 8th CIIE witnessed an attendance increase of over 600 new exhibitors representing an increase of 23.5% with 290 Fortune 500 companies and industry leaders present. The Gambia’s next steps for engagement through GiEPA will include post-expo follow-up, investment facilitation and aftercare, invitation for businesses to participate in future trade missions and events, continuous collaboration, event report sharing and post event meeting.
