As part of the implementation of the 2021-2025 National Export Strategy (NES) and the continued efforts to attain the new Gambia Investment & Export Promotion Agency’s (GiEPA) strategic plan for 2023-2027, the department of Export Promotion and Facilitation on Monday embarked on a consultation visit to major exporters across the metropolis. The visit intends to institute a baseline for the development of the envisaged real time data generation geared towards export development and facilitation in the Gambia. The team visited Gambia Horticulture Enterprise (GHE) in Jeshwang which was established in 1990 and still thriving under the horticultural and Agro-processing sector. The business currently exports over 100 tons of mangoes annually to foreign countries like Belgium, UK and Netherlands.
The team also visited MSB enterprise in Jeshwang specializing in the production of detergent and laundry soap. Established in 2013, MSB now exports over 25 tons of detergents to Guinea Bissau and Senegal per month. Both companies are now targeting to expand production to subregional markets including ECOWAS. This latest visit by the export department of GiEPA is part of an ongoing effort to conduct an export survey on the, challenges, viability and real data collection of exports from existing exporters. The exercise will also help ascertain informed decisions on export development in the country by preparing businesses to maximize opportunities emerging from the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) agreement.
