The third day of the ongoing industrial tour, led by Hon. Minister Mod K. Ceesay, continued to spotlight agricultural innovation, job creation, and investment opportunities across the regions.
DAY THREE
Highlights:
Maruo Farms – Pacharr, CRR South
- “Maruo” meaning “this is ours” reflects strong community inclusion
- SIC certificate by GIEPA in 2021, enabling access to investment incentives
- Focused on building entrepreneurs—workers earn based on hectares harvested
- Produces 2,500 tons annually, with an additional 8,000 tons through out-grower schemes
- Harvests twice yearly and supports youth development
- Mentoring 20 Gambia College students and employing 26 seasonal workers
- Calls for technical investors to strengthen agricultural skills transfer
Sahel Agribusiness – Jahally Pacharr
- A seed-focused agribusiness led by Bubacarr Bachilly
- Supplies climate-smart seeds to farmers across regions
- Cultivates 43 hectares, with 13 hectares earmarked for expansion
- Works with Africa Rice for high-quality seed supply
- Plans expansion across WCR, NBR, and URR
Day Three highlights the growing role of agriculture in driving food security, empowering youth, and reducing dependency on imports through innovation and partnerships.
