During Day 3 of the African Caucus 2026 in Banjul, discussions highlighted the critical role of education, research, science, technology, and skills development in Africa's economic transformation agenda. Hon. Professor Pierre Gomez, The Gambia's Minister of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology, contributed to discussions on strengthening higher education, promoting innovation, expanding technical and vocational education and training (TVET), enhancing STEM education, and aligning university programmes with labour market needs. Delegates emphasized investment in human capital as a foundation for sustainable growth, inclusion, and competitiveness across Africa.

 

The meeting concluded with closing remarks by Hon. Seedy K.M. Keita, Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs of The Gambia and Chair of the 2026 African Caucus, who thanked delegates for their participation and reaffirmed the importance of African cooperation. The Caucus also announced that South Africa will host the 2027 African Caucus Meeting.
